Peace and Security Issues in West Africa: The ECOWAS Response
-----------------------

The Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS) is a regional group of sixteen countries, founded in 1975. Its mission is to promote economic integration in "all fields of economic activity, particularly industry, transport, telecommunications, energy, agriculture, natural resources, commerce, monetary and financial questions, social and cultural matters ..."

Our Mission

To establish a collaborative development initiative to enhance Crisis Management (CM), Disaster Response (DR), and Humanitarian Assistance (HA).  ERIES will enable efficient, timely, and reliable information exchange between ECOWAS, its member nations, and the international community which is the first step in developing a regional framework for enhanced political, military, and international cooperation for joint multilateral crisis management activities such as disaster response, humanitarian assistance and peacekeeping.

Our Goals

Use the C4 Assessment model in a collaborative forum to assess, analyze and  to provide recommendations that enhance CM, DR and HA operations within ECOWAS.

Develop an information exchange platform/network for regionally exchanging and  disseminating information;  coordinate crises management operations.

Use the Combined Endeavor model to expand engagement in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).

Develop a communication interoperability workshop to enhance C3 of CM, DR and HA operations.

Augment the effectiveness of other EUCOM engagement, operational and interoperability activities in SSA.
